Iraq

Bovine Intervention

Earlier this year, I followed around an embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team in Fallujah, Iraq. Check out the September Atlantic (subscribe here) for my dispatch about Lockie Gary, who is in Fallujah training the widows of insurgents to become milkmaids.

Where, o where, are the fact checkers at The Atlantic? To describe Land O' Lakes, one of the largest cooperatives in the U.S., as "the butter concern" really wrecks Mr. Wood's credibility. As a native Minnesotan (home of Land O' Lakes), I guess it's good that Mr. Wood recognizes the iconic butter brand, but one would hope that either he or a copy editor would Google and learn a bit more about the coop. They are way more than producers of the stuff we like to slather.

Sorry to be cranky, but it's classic East Coast sloppiness. Deep sigh.
